What if... Nutrition could treat mental illness?

University of Canterbury
Published on May 29, 2014
Professor Julia Rucklidge, Psychology, College of Science

Despite the advent of medications and other therapies over the last 50 years, the rates of mental illness have been on the rise rather than a decline. Over the last decade, scientists have been uncovering an uncomfortable truth: What we eat is affecting our mental health.

In this talk, Prof Rucklidge will discuss the data that shows an alarming picture of food choices serving as risk factors to all kinds of psychiatric problems; she will then introduce the recent paradigm shift of using nutrients to treat these challenges, reviewing the evidence to date. The talk will challenge our current treatment regime for mental disorders and suggest one alternative course of action.

In this video I’m going to go over how to naturally cure acid reflux. I will share my acid reflux diet, the best supplements to take, and the lifestyle changes you need to make in order to heal your body of acid reflux. Triggers for acid reflux usually involve not getting enough enzymes in your diet causing low stomach acid. In order to address this issue, you need to change your diet. I would recommend avoiding citrus fruits, tomatoes, chocolate, carbonated beverages, grain products, and hydrogenated oils. Replace those foods with foods that are high in enzymes and easy for your body to digest like vegetables, fruits, organic meats, bone broth. Additionally, you want to supplement your body with a digestive enzyme supplements (two capsules with meals) or HCL with pepsin (start with one capsule with protein). You will also want to focus on your lifestyle by eating less at meals and slowing down your eating pace. Lastly, start using apple cider vinegar, which is the number one home remedy for acid reflux (one tablespoon before your meal). Apple cider vinegar has been so effective because it contains acedic acid helping you to digest your food. Following all of these tips will improve your symptoms and help you overcome acid reflux all together.
